Obama's Gall

"It is unusual to hold election rallies abroad. No German candidate for high office would even think of using the National Mall (in Washington) or Red Square in Moscow for a rally because it would not be seen as appropriate." - German Chancellor Angela Merkel, commenting on the request by Barak Obama to hold a rally at the Brandenberg Gate.

The Brandenberg Gate is a powerful symbol of German unity. Reagan and Kennedy both spoke there, both on memorable occasions - and that does NOT include a campaign stop for someone who isn't even the official nominee of his own party yet.

UPDATE: July 12, 2008. Obama is now saying "We had been trying to coordinate with folks on the ground in terms of finding an appropriate site, but we didn't have a particular site in mind."

What a liar.
