For What?

When I heard on the radio this morning that Obama has been given the Nobel Peace Prize, I thought it was a joke. LIke "The Onion" on radio or something... Looking at headlines from around the world, clearly I was not the only one..

Absurd decision on Obama makes a mockery of the Nobel peace prize - UK Times

A Little Soon for the Nobel Prize?" - New York Times

What has he done to deserve this prize?

Give some speeches.
Have some ideas.

Here's what the Prize Committee stated as their reasons for choosing him:

for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.” In addition, his selection also has to do with his goals of nuclear non-proliferation and global nuclear disarmament."

What extraordinary efforts were those? Was I out of the room when it happened?

Since when are prestigious prizes awarded to someone for their "goals"? Usually someone has to have actually DONE SOMETHING concrete to work toward their goals and that is usually MUCH MORE than TALKING ABOUT THEM.

The Nobel Peace Prize has been seriously undermined by its being awarded to a rookie president with ZERO achievements, who has undermined our country's position around the globe by appeasing our enemies and alienating our former allies.

It seems apropos that NASA crashed a rocket and a satellite into the moon today after a huge buildup about dust plumes that would be visible through backyard telescopes and it was basically a "thud" and then a second "thud", and the Nobel Committee crashes its top prize with a "thud" that has kicked up a much bigger cloud of dust.
